Punta Gorda police say three drivers were arrested in separate stops on the southbound U.S. 41 (Gilchrist) Bridge after radar clocked them at 96, 98 and 102 mph in a 45 mph zone. Topping the limit by more than 50 mph counts as dangerous excessive speeding under a Florida law in effect since July 1, 2025. It requires a court appearance and carries up to 30 days in jail and a $500 fine on a first conviction.
